Elders and youth are the foundation of the Uchucklesaht Tribe, representing the past, present, and future of our Nation. Elders hold the wisdom of our ancestors, preserving together, they form a bridge between generations, ensuring that the spirit of the Uchucklesaht people remains strong and resilient.

Elders: The Guardians of Our Culture

Elders are deeply respected in our community as the guardians of sacred teachings and natural medicines.

Elders share stories passed down for generations, teaching youth about our origins, values, and spiritual beliefs. They lead ceremonies, drumming circles, and healing practices.

At the Uchucklesaht Tribe Government, we deeply value the wisdom and presence of our Elders. We are committed to supporting their holistic well-being through meaningful engagement and community care. Monthly Elders Breakfasts, weekly morning walks, water aerobics, social gatherings, and cultural activities are thoughtfully organized to keep our Elders active, connected, and empowered physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Youth: The Future of Our Nation

The Uchucklesaht Tribe is dedicated to empowering its youth, providing opportunities to learn, grow, and take pride in their heritage while embracing modern education and career paths.

Youth participate in language classes, drumming and dance practices, and traditional skills training, such as canoe carving, fishing, foraging trips, etc., as part of the “Warrior Group” program.

Youth and Elders come together for storytelling sessions, land-based learning, and mentorship programs, fostering mutual respect and cultural continuity.

The Uchucklesaht Tribe Government is dedicated to nurturing and uplifting the next generation through various programs like language classes, job training opportunities, regular job postings, and mental health support workshops. We aim to build strong, confident, and capable youth by engaging them in cultural programs, skill-building workshops, and fun social activities that are offered to help youth stay connected to their roots while exploring their full potential.
