Well-being isn’t only about the services we provide. It’s also about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, connected, and supported.

This summer, Uchucklesaht staff and community partners hosted several gatherings that brought people together to share food, stories, and companionship.

In May, families gathered at Nucii Human Services for a hands-on parents group focused on preparing homemade lasagnas together.

The event offered families an opportunity to connect, cook, and bring home meals to enjoy immediately or save for later.

Additional parents group programming and activities are planned for June. See our events calendar and register here.

Gatherings like these support family connection, shared learning, and the everyday relationships that help communities stay strong.

Another one of those gatherings was Tea in the Garden, a relaxed morning where Elders Charlie Cootes, Marie Samuel, and Gloria Rush joined community members for tea, conversation, and laughter. Also lending a helping hand was student worker Madi, whose enthusiasm and support helped make the morning a success. Sometimes, simply taking time to sit together can strengthen the relationships that hold our community together.

Another highlight was the Picnic in the Park at Roger Creek Park, organized by Ina Dick as part of an outreach and harm reduction initiative supporting vulnerable community members, including those experiencing homelessness or substance use challenges.

Working alongside neighbouring Nations and local support organizations, the event welcomed more than 70 people for a shared meal, access to resources, and an opportunity to connect in a welcoming, judgement-free environment.

Events like these remind us that harm reduction begins with compassion. By meeting people where they are, building relationships, and ensuring everyone feels seen and valued, we create stronger, healthier communities for everyone.

A heartfelt thank you to Ina Dick, the volunteers, partner organizations, and everyone who helped make these gatherings possible. Your kindness, generosity, and commitment to community care continue to make a meaningful difference.
