Community & Culture
Our people live responsibly, benefiting from the abundance of our territories while honouring our ancestors, promoting our values, and respecting and protecting the land, waters, and air, with reverence for the Creator.
Who we are
Our ḥaḥuułi spans a diverse and abundant landscape, from ancient forests and salmon-bearing rivers to rich marine ecosystems. Every part of this territory holds cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance. It is our duty to care for it with deep respect and long-term vision.
Rooted in the rich traditions of our ancestors, the Uchucklesaht Tribe is a proud and resilient community who have lived in harmony with the land and waters of our traditional territory for generations. We respectfully acknowledge that our Nation’s home lies within the breathtaking landscapes of the Nuu-chah-nulth territories, where the mountains meet the sea. Nestled in Uchucklesit Inlet of Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.
We are proud signatories of the Maa-nulth Treaty and are committed to strengthening our community through sustainable development and cultural revitalization, reflecting the values and traditions of the Uchucklesaht people. Our government supports a growing and resilient future rooted in our rich heritage, respect for the land, and a vision of prosperity for current and future generations.
Our citizens
The Uchucklesaht Tribe has established a Citizenship Law that sets out the criteria for Uchucklesaht Citizenship and Enrolment under the Maa-nulth Treaty and establishes rules and procedures aimed at ensuring those criteria are applied fairly and consistently to all individuals.
